The Rangely Town Council on July 22 authorized staff to apply for a $70,000 Bureau of Land Management grant intended to finish river put‑in signage, educational materials and road access improvements.
Town staff told council the grant would more than cover the remaining project work but warned that federal grants carry strict deadlines and application requirements. The town manager said the deadline for the BLM opportunity was the next day and that staff had been "struggling to get access to the federal system that allows us to apply for it" but planned to "press through and see what we can accomplish tomorrow." He added that the BLM had been "enthusiastic" in its support and that a cooperating contractor said it would modify scope if additional funds later become available.
Council voted to approve the submission request and gave staff permission to proceed with the application and the necessary sign-offs. The council noted there is no local match required for this grant and asked staff to report outcomes of any federal portal access issues.
