Chair (speaker 2) called for a motion after staff described how overtime and special-deputy pay would be handled and the motion passed by voice vote.
Agency official (speaker 6), who presented the proposal, said the arrangement would allow the sheriff’s office to put qualified special deputies on the roster and be reimbursed through the county’s general fund when events request security. He told the board the county will invoice event sponsors and “pay that out of my special deputy fund,” with the general fund later reimbursed.
Commissioners discussed practical points — whether vehicle costs and payroll taxes were included and how benefits should be treated — and agreed to adopt the policy as written while retaining flexibility to adjust hourly or stipend amounts later. The board did not set a fixed long-term stipend; staff will provide a formal schedule and administrative language at a later meeting.
