Elijah Kersey, identifying himself as a college student from Brigham City, Utah, told the council he and classmates are balancing athletics and academics while pursuing an associate of science degree and playing basketball.
“We are sharing our experience as college students,” Kersey said, describing time-management strategies, test anxiety and the need to build routines when living away from family. Jameer Todd, a sophomore studying business from Denver, emphasized social supports and networking as crucial: “Networking is also very important … you never know when you’re next to the next Elon Musk,” he said. The students described resume-building exercises in class and how participation in sports helped develop mental toughness.
Council members asked the students where they see themselves in 10 years and how the town might better involve college students. Presenters said they have mixed expectations but noted local support, with one student saying Rangely felt less lonely than expected and offering to remain involved with community events. The exchange closed with council members and residents encouraging students to continue attending classes and stay engaged with local opportunities.
