The Jackson County Board of Supervisors on June 16 approved a one‑month amendment to the Drug Free Communities (DFC) interim coordinator contract to add 30 hours in July. The additional time will cover a week‑long mid‑year conference where the coordinator will accompany six youth from the county’s coalition program.
Julie Ferdin, identified in the agenda as the DFC interim coordinator, told supervisors the children served are “high risk and high need” and require additional supervision while traveling. She said the amendment is needed because the trip “is gonna take more hours than I had in my 60 hours per month because it's gonna be a week.” Board members confirmed that the conference expenses are paid from the program’s grant funds and moved to approve the amendment. The motion was seconded and adopted by voice vote.
Supervisors asked for a follow‑up report on what the youth learned at the conference. Ferdin said she would provide a list of participants and forward their names to the board.
