Ontario honors retiring community development director Scott Murphy after 28 years

The Ontario City Council honored Scott Murphy, the city’s recently retired executive director of community development, with remarks, awards and proclamations recognizing nearly three decades of public service.
Developers and community partners praised Murphy’s leadership on large projects including Ontario Ranch. Dave Bartlett, vice president of Brookville Residential, said the council and staff formed a team that produced “a lot of winning seasons.” Bartlett added, “I’ve seen Scott Murphy as the quarterback, and he has quarterbacked this process.” A representative of Congresswoman Torres presented a congressional certificate acknowledging Murphy’s contributions, and a staff member for Senator Susan Rubio read a resolution noting his “unwavering commitment.”
Murphy thanked colleagues and partners, saying relationships and mentorship sustained him through a career that spanned public and private roles. “I have had the privilege of working with some phenomenal people over the years,” he said. Council members and former planning commissioners echoed those remarks and credited Murphy with helping to shape the city’s growth and planning work.
The council proceeded to the regular agenda after the ceremony; the meeting included public comment and routine business.
