Pigeon Key Foundation outlines capital finish-out, shoreline pilot and program pivot

Collin McKinnon of the Pigeon Key Foundation reported on a year of capital work completed with a 2023 $500,000 state appropriation and additional funding sources. He said floor and roof repairs, AC upgrades, roadway and solar-panel work were completed under budget, enabling further projects such as storm shutters, an automated gate for 7-Mile Bridge parking, and a dock project moving through permitting.
"We were super fortunate to get this one done...we'll increase our solar power generation by 40% with another TDC grant," McKinnon said, and he noted wins including a $600,000 FDEP appropriation and $250,000 from the Department of State to address shoreline and building hardening. He said the foundation will pivot from heavy capital fundraising to expanding tours, programs, and local engagement.
