Peekskill planning department outlines comp plan, pier activation and kitchen incubator timeline

Carol, presenting for the planning and economic development teams, outlined a multi-year work plan focused on launching a new comprehensive plan, leveraging a workforce-housing study, pursuing climate-resilience funding and advancing waterfront activation. She said the city has 35 active grants totaling about $54 million in the planning shop and that the comprehensive-plan RFP is drafted and the state grant contract is being finalized.

Carol described a phased approach: complete the comp plan and targeted neighborhood plans, finalize grant agreements for momentum infrastructure projects, and pursue a kitchen incubator and pilot commercial uses tied to downtown and riverfront investments. She said Fleischmann's Pier public opening is imminent and that staff expect to extend sewer service to the pier and perform a peer‑management plan for boat operations. On the kitchen incubator, staff said capital equipment funding discussions with the county are underway and that they expect to break ground in early 2025 if awards are finalized.
