Facilities staff urges new district facility condition assessment as buildings age

Staff said the district's prior facility condition assessment was completed roughly eight years ago and that, while some referendum work has been done, many systems remain beyond their lifespan. "Currently, right now, the average age of our original high schools and intermediate schools is over 50 years, and our elementary schools is over 55 years," a facilities presenter said, adding that a third‑party firm can provide up‑to‑date pricing and greater credibility with state regulatory reviewers.
Board members asked whether some assessment elements could be done in house. Facilities staff responded that some components could be handled internally but that a third‑party review (and a 0.333 party review with current pricing tools) would add value and help with future procurement and regulatory review. Staff noted the district would solicit multiple proposals and scope the work before selecting a firm.
