The Pine County Board agreed to recess for a joint meeting with the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe on April 15 at 1 p.m., aiming for a committee-of-the-whole format that would include elected and appointed officials from both sides. Commissioners asked staff to solicit topics in advance and suggested focusing on housing, economic development and the existing law-enforcement agreement for explanation and possible updates.
A staff member said they would circulate a joint statement of principles from about 2012 to refresh commissioners' knowledge ahead of the meeting. Commissioners also flagged the band's recent leadership change and said both sides might benefit from an organizational update and a focused discussion on shared priorities.
