District opposes Bolton historic-register nomination, cites preservation report and operational limits

Patrick Ludwig and Remo Douglas explained the district hired a third-party preservation firm, Continuum, which concluded the building "did not have the types of features that would meet the criteria" for listing; staff submitted that report and the district's public comment to the state committee.
Douglas said the state advisory committee deferred a decision and requested additional material from the nominees, giving the nominators roughly 70 days to supplement the application. Staff stressed the nomination process is open to the public but that designation could complicate repairs, remodels or leasing if the building were listed. Committee members asked whether community members could lobby the board; staff said members may express their personal views but should direct technical or policy questions to staff for official positions.
