Resident urges Pine County to rework cannabis zoning draft, cites ignored state guidance

Denise Weiss of Royalton Township told the Pine County Board during public comment that a subcommittee's first draft for locating cannabis businesses followed Minnesota guidance and recommendations from the Association of Minnesota Counties but was rejected by the main committee.
"They haven't followed what the Minnesota Association of Counties recommended or the AMC," Weiss said, urging commissioners to "relook at that draft to really protect the residents because that's who you serve." Weiss also said subcommittee members had taken field trips to properties she described as "drug houses" and suggested the appointments be reconsidered if those trips were undocumented.
The board did not take action during public forum; commissioners moved on to the regular agenda. Weiss framed her comments around resident safety and enforcement, and asked the board to ensure county zoning follows state-recommended siting practices for cannabis operations. No board member provided an immediate response during the public comment period.
