Legislature adopts 2026 meeting calendar after removing July 7 date

The legislature approved a resolution establishing its 2026 meeting dates with an amendment to eliminate the July 7 meeting. Greg Mezey, speaking for the government operations group, moved the resolution (doc ID 13,724) and proposed removing the July 7 meeting as a staff-friendly break around the Independence Day holiday. The amendment passed 14–2; the full resolution as amended then passed 15–1.
During debate members said the change provides staff and legislators a traditional summer break and noted some dates (March 19 and Nov. 5) would be moved to Thursdays because of conference and election schedules. The clerk recorded the final vote and the amended calendar will be posted in the legislature’s public materials.
