Police Chief David Pernice reported to Union City Borough Council on Aug. 13 that the department had responded to 269 calls between June 1 and Aug. 13, an average of about 3.63 calls per day. Pernice said some incidents—such as a domestic call—occupied an entire shift, and he noted recent suicide/mental‑health responses, vandalism and burglary investigations.
Pernice said he and Officer Shelly attended an Alert Active Shooter training on July 24–25 that the chief described as beneficial. He also said he applied to the UC Community Foundation for four tasers and an additional set of security cameras; the foundation awarded both requests, according to the minutes.
