Commissioner discloses fire‑chief role, will abstain on related votes
Summary
A commissioner said state statute prevents him from voting on matters that directly affect the fire service because he also serves as a county fire chief; the board acknowledged the limitation and continued the agenda accordingly.

Commissioner Wayne told the board he serves as a county fire chief and explained that, under state statute, he cannot vote on matters that would present a conflict while holding that position. "I currently serve fire chief in this county. I just want everybody to understand that part," he said, adding he had read the statute and wanted the board to be aware of constraints on participation.
The chair and fellow commissioners discussed participation and indicated they would proceed while honoring statutory requirements. The disclosure preceded the consent‑agenda split that excluded Commissioner Wayne from voting on budget amendment 11; the board proceeded with votes after the disclosure.
