Shawnee Public Schools qualifies for 100% student meal reimbursement under CEP

Shawnee Public Schools will receive full federal meal reimbursement for all students after qualifying for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), Superintendent Dr. Aaron Espolt told the board at its Aug. 5 meeting.
Dr. Espolt said the district is "now completely funded for 100% student breakfasts and lunches," and noted the percentage of meals served rose 33% in the prior school year. He credited Child Nutrition director Julia Jesseph and Student Information staff member Lauren Santos for the district securing the funding. The board approved a separate capital purchase for Child Nutrition equipment that same night.
The district plans to monitor staffing and enrollment before making final hiring decisions this fall. The superintendent also listed start-of-year dates, noting new-teacher orientation begins Aug. 7 and the first day of classes is Aug. 15.
