Yachats to use MuniRev to flag unlicensed short-term rentals; staff suggests incentives to convert units

Moderator Bobby explained the city will use a new software tool, MuniRev, to search listing sites and flag potential unlicensed short-term rentals. "The city is signing up for a new software called MuniRev, and it will basically be constantly searching all of the rental listing sites... They will bring they'll flag those for us," he said.
After verification staff will notify property owners of code violations and explore compliance options, including outreach and possibly waiving fines as an incentive to convert to long-term rentals. The idea of a vacancy tax was raised as another policy tool that other cities have used to discourage absentee ownership and raise funds for housing programs.
