The Wolfeboro Budget Committee approved a motion to boost the American Legion’s request for funds to $11,236, increasing the existing proposed line by $2,546.
An American Legion representative (speaker 3) presented a cover letter and historical materials and said the submission "resubmitting a request for $11,236" to restore prior funding levels. Town staff (speaker 5) told the committee the proposed budget currently shows $8,690 for the organization and confirmed the committee could amend the line to match the request. Committee member (speaker 7) moved the increase and a colleague seconded it; the chair called a roll and the motion passed.
Committee members asked how the additional funding would be used; Legion presenters said it would "replace the flags in the towns at the cemeteries, public building, and maintaining the hardware on the poles," and noted volunteers including Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts help with placement. Members discussed creating an ad hoc group to raise supplementary funds for the parade and related costs.
The action will be reflected in the final operating budget that staff will update prior to printing and the town’s public hearing materials.
