Dorset panel approves Church Street shed, requires slate or matching standing-seam roof

The Dorset Design Review Committee granted approval for a small wood storage shed at 78 Church Street, with conditions on color and roofing material, at its Aug. 19 meeting.
Chair Kit Wallace described the proposed 10' x 4' x 8'4" wood storage shed, which Daniels said would sit behind the main house on an adjacent parcel and be out of sight from Church Street. "Mr. Daniels stated it would be either a black metal roof or a slate roof," the minutes record. The board recommended a slate roof and clarified that acceptable roofing materials include slate or low-gloss seamed metal in a dark color; if a standing-seam metal roof is used, it should match the existing metal roof on the properties (slate gray).
The committee cited applicable design standards (2203.I for compatibility and siting of new structures; 2203.L for acceptable construction components and materials, including siding and roof types) and required the shed be painted white and have a slate or matching standing-seam roof. Member Arnie Gottlieb moved to approve with those conditions; Ruth Tanenhaus seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
