Flagstaff commission discusses chair succession and changing meeting time for childcare

Near the end of the July 31 meeting, Chair Manny Hernandez signaled he may step down and asked the commission to consider allowing someone else to assume the chair role.
Hernandez said he took the chair position to challenge himself but is open to a successor: "I would like to entertain the idea of letting somebody else do it as well," he said, and asked the commission to add chair and vice-chair appointments to the September agenda. He also noted childcare constraints related to the current Friday-afternoon meeting time and asked the group to consider a schedule change so he can continue to serve on the commission but not as chair unless someone else volunteers.
Commissioners agreed to place the matter on the September agenda for formal consideration. Staff said historically leadership selection happens in September and will add it to the agenda; the group also agreed to discuss possible meeting-time adjustments to improve attendance.
