The Flagstaff Open Space Commission discussed organizing a public field trip to Observatory Mesa to view priority trail alignments and advance planning for a future trail project. Robert, a member of open-space staff, said staff and contractor Flagline Trails are finishing mapping and GIS work and proposed walking select alignments so the commission can narrow recommendations and observe conditions in person. "We're actually working with flag line trails currently to... that's the corridors for priority 1 trails that are in the Observatory Mesa," Robert said.
Commissioners raised timing and logistics concerns, including site conditions following recent rains and legal limits on off-site, vehicle-based meetings. The commission agreed staff should consult the city clerk about open-meeting-law obligations, coordinate proposed itineraries and notify City Council members and partner agencies so they can participate. "If we say we chose October... if we gave them enough heads up too, it might be really nice," the chair said. Staff committed to propose a few itineraries and return with a recommendation at the next meeting.
