The Tompkins County Legislature discussed and confirmed appointments to the Tompkins County Industrial Development Agency and the Tompkins County Development Corporation at its Feb. 17 meeting.
Greg Nuzzi presented the appointments and noted the process for chair’s privilege appointments; Mike Sigler requested more information about nominees’ philosophies and pulled the item for discussion. Judith Hubbard asked the record to reflect a desire for a school district representative on the IDA board, noting schools bear costs from tax abatements. Nuzzi said county leaders had sought state approval to expand membership and had submitted affirmations in the prior legislative cycle to pursue home‑rule amendments.
The roll call vote recorded 15 in favor and 1 opposed (Mick Siggler in the roll call transcript recorded as a 'No' at one point), and Chair Black declared the appointment resolution passed. Members discussed possible follow‑up with state representatives to press for home‑rule changes to permit school representation. No procedural amendment was made at the meeting.
