Tompkins County Legislature honors Mike Lane for 44 years of public service

The Tompkins County Legislature opened its Dec. 16 meeting with a proclamation recognizing Michael Lane for 44 years of elected service at the village and county levels.
Anna Kellis, New York State Assembly, read the proclamation on behalf of the legislature, calling Lane “one of Tompkins County’s most steadfast public servants” and noting his terms as village trustee, mayor of Dryden and long service on the county legislature. "I deeply appreciate you — your 44 years that you've given to all of us in service," Kellis said as she presented the formal citation.
Former colleagues and community members followed with brief tributes describing Lane’s institutional knowledge and mentorship. Leslyn McBean Clairborne, former chair of the county legislature, told the chamber Lane had been a constant presence and a reliable mentor to new members. Former legislator Jim Dennis recounted working alongside Lane on budget matters and described him as "the most honest guy ever." The legislature paused the formal agenda to present awards and recognize other departing members before moving on to appointments and committee business.
The recognition concluded with applause and remarks about the continuing work of the legislature and the incoming class of members.
