Ruby Mora, a student at the University of La Verne College of Law, said she and classmates were told they could no longer park in nearby residential neighborhoods after permit changes and were directed to a lot at East D Street and Euclid. Mora said both she and a classmate returned from class to find their vehicles damaged and that police told them there are no cameras facing the lot.
"Both of our cars got broken in to," Mora said, describing shattered glass, tampering with an ignition, and damaged door handles. She asked the council for stepped-up security patrols and surveillance cameras until a student parking structure under construction is completed, noting the financial burden of repairs for law students. The mayor directed Deputy Chief Lopez to meet with the students after the meeting to discuss police follow-up, and the clerk confirmed emailed public comments were placed into the record.
No immediate ordinance or funding decision was made on the request during the meeting; the students were told staff and police would follow up.
