County Commission on Aging commissioner urges Belvedere to boost senior preparedness and transportation

Larry Binkley, the city’s appointed commissioner to the Marin County Council on Aging, presented countywide findings and local priorities during the council’s May 12 meeting.
Binkley said, "Food insecurity has risen from 10 to 18%" and noted the 60‑plus population in Marin is roughly 30% and expected to rise further. He urged localized outreach — updating resource guides, repeating the senior expo and developing volunteer driver programs for short trips to keep seniors connected.
Binkley told council members he wants to pursue increased transportation options, emergency preparedness targeted at older residents and more regular county‑level engagement: "One thing for me personally, I've made connecting with my community my top priority." He also said his commission work is meant to be a conduit between local councils and the Board of Supervisors to ensure seniors’ needs and resilience planning reach county decision makers.
Council members thanked Binkley and discussed potential next steps, including better coordination between the ranch, library and county programs to reduce isolation and improve access to services for seniors.
