Selectboard hears FY26 budget overview; sinking funds and delinquent taxes reported

At the Nov. 19 meeting the Dorset Selectboard reviewed highlights of the draft FY26 budget. Town Manager Rob Gaiotti said expenses are expected to rise about 4–5 percent; budget priorities noted included paving Peace Street, planning work on the Prentiss Pond Dam, and replacement of a 2006 backhoe in the Highway Department. Staff also said a single audit is required for recent FEMA grants, and the board will review an updated budget at its December meeting.
Finance figures presented to the board included delinquent taxes of $137,868 as of Nov. 15, 2024 (compared with $106,335 the prior year). Reported sinking-fund balances included ARPA $582,000 (with $242,000 available for use), Reappraisal $209,788, Equipment $344,640, and Highway Paving $358,388. The 2021 Town Office Bond balance was listed as $3,600,000 (bond rate: 4.01%).
