At its Nov. 18, 2024 meeting, the Dorset Design Review Committee reviewed a proposal from Beyer Architects to convert a downtown building at 41 Church Street into mixed use, with a business on the ground floor and a single three‑bedroom apartment on the second floor. The applicant, architect Todd Beyer, said the change of use and the proposed rear addition are intended to repair water damage and provide an accessible rear entrance while preserving the building’s existing front entrance for the business.
The applicant told the committee that "there will be two main changes to the building": conversion to mixed use and an increase in the rear footprint to address rot and water‑flow problems. When asked how large the apartment would be, the applicant responded, "It will be one apartment with 3 bedrooms." Committee members were reminded that the Design Review Committee issues recommendations and that final approvals for parking and permits rest with the Planning Commission and, if needed, the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA).
