Dorset adds patrols on Route 30 and Route 7 after increased speeding complaints

The Selectboard heard that Dorset has received an increase in speeding complaints on Route 30 and Route 7 and has added three additional 8-hour police shifts per week to address the problem. Town Manager Rob Gaiotti said the extra coverage will remain in place until Columbus Day when traffic generally slows.
The manager also reported ongoing meetings with the sheriff's department to add shifts and coordinate enforcement. The board discussed the timeframe and logistics but did not adopt a separate ordinance or program at the meeting.
The extra patrols are intended as a temporary response to resident complaints; staff will report back if additional measures are needed after the Columbus Day timeframe.
