Council approved Ordinance 19‑2026 authorizing the mayor and director of finance to enter into an economic development consultant agreement with Middlesex Consulting LLC (Mike Beasley) and appropriating $18,000.
Administration said the hire responds to the recent retirement of a key staff member and will bolster the city’s economic development capacity. Browning said the council had worked out an agreement with Middlesex Consulting to help with economic development duties and described Beasley as a strong candidate with experience as a county administrator and municipal city administrator. “He’s fantastic. I’m really excited to start working with him,” an administration member said.
Council approved the ordinance as an emergency measure by voice vote; staff will execute the consultant agreement and return with any necessary administrative details.
