Commission approves Wild Aster Books mural grant and forwards application

The Chamblee Public Arts Commission unanimously approved July 23 a mural grant application from Wild Aster Books and voted to forward the application and design concept to city council for final approval.
Staff presented a revised concept from Wild Aster Books and said the applicant has a named artist, Dusty Kramer, who previously painted a mural inside the venue. The applicant requested $5,000 from the city and will match that amount, producing a $10,000 total project value. "They are asking for $5,000, and they will match it," staff said during the presentation.
Commissioners asked for a clearer sketch for city council and agreed the motion should include standard conditions: the grant not exceed $5,000 from the city and final approval pending outstanding application items, including the landlord affidavit. The motion passed by unanimous consent and will be taken to city council for final action.
