Planning Commission recommends City Council approve front-yard fence height and material limits

South Weber City’s Planning Commission on Jan. 15 recommended City Council approval of an amendment to Title 10, Chapter 11 that establishes standards for front-yard fencing, including height and material restrictions.
Community Development Manager Lance Evans explained the city had not previously regulated front-yard fence height and location. The proposed amendment allows front-yard fences up to four feet and prohibits solid fences (more than 75% opaque) that exceed three feet. The amendment also prohibits barbed wire and razor ribbon in residential zones except when replacing existing agricultural fences; in commercial zones these materials may be limited to three strands placed at least six feet above ground and not slanted over public property.
Mr. Evans clarified the 40-foot clear-view standard at intersections was not changed by this amendment. Commissioners voted 3-0 to recommend City Council approval; Commissioners Dopp, Losee and Roberts voted aye.
