Fire Chief Michael Alegria told council the department has handled about 125 calls so far this year and described a recent fireworks incident that led to a citation. He described regional 'green veil' training conducted with Los Angeles-area chiefs and said the exercises exposed how swiftly resources can be consumed in a mass-casualty exercise.
“Last month, we had a medical call. A person not breathing. The crew showed up, took over compressions, and after 8 minutes of CPR... by the time we were ready to go to the hospital, he was sitting up talking to us,” Alegria said, praising crew performance. Council thanked the chief.
A public-safety representative reported 250 incidents logged since the last meeting (194 observations by deputies, 56 public calls), including traffic stops, arrests for domestic violence and other offenses, and county-level scuba/ESD training attended by local agencies. The representative said many incidents involve visitors and alcohol and previewed a school outreach program with the National Guard on drug and alcohol education scheduled for next week.
