Council accepts Finnegan DeWitt as Montrose reserve firefighter

The City of Montrose City Council approved a resolution July 13 accepting Finnegan DeWitt as a reserve firefighter for the Montrose Fire Department, effective June 23, 2026.
Montrose Fire representative Corey presented the June activity report and introduced the resolution, saying, "Item number 2 before you tonight is a resolution accepting Finnegan DeWitt as a reserve firefighter, effective 06/23/2026." A council member moved to approve resolution 2026-34 and the motion passed 4-0.
Corey told the council that as a reserve DeWitt is not covered under PERA retirement benefits and that DeWitt will be attending Hennepin Technical College's fire/rescue program. "He's an outstanding individual," Corey said during the presentation. Council welcomed DeWitt and asked him to stand for recognition.
The resolution authorizes adding DeWitt to the department's roster as a reserve; no additional compensation or staffing changes were announced during the meeting.
