County 'Care-a-van' mobile vet unit expected early 2025; local hires reported

Supervisor John Haschak reported that the county's Care-a-van mobile veterinary unit is nearing completion in Arizona and should be operational in early 2025 to provide spay/neuter and vaccine services. Council members noted a veterinary assistant has been hired and that the van's arrival is expected in March or April 2025.
Members said the ongoing problem of uncontained and abandoned dogs remains on the agenda. Kathy Britton noted a recent local rescue in which Barbara Thrasher received 11 puppies found in a box; the MAC will continue to track animal-services needs as the Care-a-van comes online.
