Under current rules, the district receives a portion of transportation costs as reimbursement; staff explained that the district takes 60% of what it spends and is reimbursed up to the capped formula amount, with excess spending eligible for additional reimbursement only after certain thresholds are met.
The presentation cited contracts with third-party providers (including Weststar) to provide services to students with disabilities and remote placements, and discussed an on-demand bus-pass program and route changes targeted at Auburn Elementary to reduce chronic absenteeism. Trustees asked about expanding routes to other schools; staff said the district can perform additional heat-map analysis to identify new hotspots for service expansion.
A motion to approve the transportation plan passed with the board's aye vote recorded in open session.
