Sky Ridge principal highlights attendance gains, ELA and math diagnostic growth

Christy Ade, principal of Sky Ridge School, presented the board with a snapshot of school programs and student outcomes at the Auburn Union School District meeting on March 1. She said the school had made —major gains— in chronic absenteeism, reporting a decline to 10.9% as of the most recent update, and credited extensive family outreach and school-team efforts for the improvement.
Ade walked the board through recent instructional data. She said Sky Ridge's iReady diagnostics showed ELA on-grade-level percentages rising from 29% at the first diagnostic to 46% at the second (a 16-percentage-point increase) and math increasing from 21% to 36% (a 15-point gain). On those trends, she said, iReady projects a higher share of students could reach grade level on the CAASPP/CAST assessments.
Ade also described programs that support student engagement and enrichment: an expanded middle-school homework-help club staffed by core teachers, a Watchdogs volunteer program that places male volunteers around campus, a garden docent program, and a partnership with Placer High that brings 13 student teachers to Sky Ridge three days a week for classroom support.
—We have worked extremely hard,— Ade told the board, noting staff collaboration and a focus on classroom-level instruction and attendance outreach. She urged the board to consider the combination of targeted interventions and community partnerships as drivers of the gains.
The presentation concluded with board praise and a pledge to continue monitoring site-level progress as the district cycles through school showcase presentations in future meetings.
