President Tina Shingleton said she contacted Kent Wiggins with WK&T about broadband for downtown Makanda; Wiggins told the village WK&T has applied for BEAD funding that includes the area but that no awards have been announced and next steps are uncertain. WK&T will inform the village of any developments, Shingleton said.
The board took no formal vote on broadband at the meeting; the update provides local residents and businesses preliminary information about a potential federal-state broadband finance opportunity but does not guarantee service or timelines.
