The Village of Makanda Board of Trustees voted April 7 to ratify a change order to cover an unplanned culvert replacement on McGuire Road. E.T. Simonds discovered a rotten wooden bridge under the roadway while milling on April 1; repair work took place April 2 and required closing the road for the day. The board recorded the culvert repair cost as $16,703.93 and the total cost for resurfacing and culvert installation as $190,789.84, which falls below the January authorization capped at $255,000. Trustee Wolff moved to ratify the change order; Trustee Dalton seconded, and all members present voted yes.
Contractors Dan and Randy assisted with the April 2 repairs to reopen the road as soon as possible, the minutes say. The board discussed the repair during the Street & Road Committee report and approved the ratification by voice vote. The item will be reflected in the Street and Road Committee's upcoming report to the board; Trustee Hilliard said the committee will compile inspection results for presentation at the May 13 meeting.
