The City of Corona Historic Preservation Board voted to recommend approval of proposed alterations to City Park and to adopt an addendum to the General Plan EIR, forwarding the item to City Council with conditions.
"Staff has 2 requests for you tonight. 1st is to approve the alterations to City Park as proposed by the City Park Revitalization Project and adopt the general plan EIR addendum prepared for the City Park Revitalization Project," Associate Planner (staff) said during the presentation. After public testimony and board discussion, Board Member Kulkarnis moved that the board "adopt an addendum to the certified environmental impact report" and "adopt resolution number 26 89, granting alterations to City Park based on the findings contained in the staff report and recommend conditions of approval." The motion passed by voice vote, 3–0.
The conditions the board agreed to forward include expanded interpretive materials (more than a single plaque) for the park’s identified historic resources, retention or relocation of the municipal plunge marker, a marker for the bunya tree, and retention or donation of at least one historic light fixture to a city repository. Staff noted the board’s recommendations are advisory and final approval rests with City Council. The board scheduled the next Historic Preservation Board meeting for August 31, 2026.
