“we are very fortunate to have received 1000000 dollars, due to senator Lina Gonzales, going to bat for us and got that, not only got it in the in the general budget for the state, but it survived,” City Manager (S4) told the council, adding staff will ask to treat the award as a grant and to issue an RFP for decking work. He cautioned that the project schedule depends on material availability.
Why it matters: the pier is core harbor infrastructure and staff said the grant would allow the city to pursue a wood deck replacement similar in nature to the existing structure. If the council accepts the grant and the RFP yields acceptable bids, staff indicated construction could begin as soon as winter and be completed before Memorial Day — provided materials can be sourced.
