District dashboard: chronic absenteeism down, English-learner progress posts large gains

The district's English-learner progress measure (ELPAC) recovered from a prior-year decline and rose by about 12.5 percentage points; staff credited an adopted ELD curriculum and targeted middle- and elementary-level interventions.
Attendance improvements were a highlight: presenters said the district's P1 attendance for the current year is 94.16%, up from 92.98% the prior year, and that chronic absenteeism fell roughly 4.3 percentage points districtwide. Staff described the district's "arrive-and-thrive" campaign of monthly automated parent communications, site-level check-ins, and monthly incentives as central to the improvement. Trustees asked for additional breakdowns (for example, the percentage meeting grade-level expectations), and staff agreed to provide those figures.
Presenters cautioned that subgroup reporting requires careful interpretation: students with disabilities showed both high chronic absenteeism and pronounced point gains in achievement measures; staff noted prior opt-outs and loss-score issues that can affect comparisons but said 2025 data meet testing participation thresholds and are more reliable than in prior years.
"We just got our P1 data. Last year in 2024, we had 92.98% attendance in our district. And this year, our p1 data is 94.16," a presenter said during the discussion.
Trustees were broadly positive about the direction but requested more granular performance metrics by grade and subgroup to inform future planning and LCAP alignment.
