Board approves retirements, hires, pay increase for substitutes and staffing designations

The Lake Crystal–Wellcome Memorial board accepted retirements and made several staffing decisions during its July 20 meeting.
The board accepted the retirement of Doug Burns, Athletic Director, Math Teacher and Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach, effective Aug. 7, 2026, and accepted the retirement of DeDe Peterson at the end of the 2025–26 school year with appreciation for her 28 years of service. It approved hiring Jody Bryant as a .5 FTE Secondary Reading Specialist with a seniority date of Aug. 18, 2026, and confirmed the roster of fall coaches for the 2026 season (head coaches include Kevin Hagge for football, Doug Burns listed as head cross country in approvals but also noted retirement effective Aug. 7). The board also approved increasing substitute teacher pay from $165/day to $170/day.
