Police seek Missouri Blue Shield grant to replace patrol‑car tablets; council approves application

The council voted to authorize submission of an application to the Missouri Blue Shield grant program to replace mobile data terminals in patrol vehicles. Deputy Chief Justin Jones explained the terminals are tablet devices officers use in the field to view and file reports and that the department is facing battery and lifecycle issues with the existing units.
Jones estimated the full replacement cost at about $45,000, reported the Blue Shield allocation to Kirksville for 2027 at $20,955.50, and said the remaining $16,044.50 would be covered by the general fund. "Those are literally just computers or more specifically, they're tablets that are in each of the marked patrol cars that the officers use to look up information on reports while they're out in the field," Jones said.
