The Denmark Select Board reviewed suggested edits to the town's credit‑card policy and agreed to table final action until the town manager/treasurer (Betty) returns on Aug. 11. Chair (S1) proposed specific language changes to clarify responsibility for late‑payment fees and to add mandatory reporting of lost, stolen, or suspect charges to the town manager, town treasurer and the card insurer.
"Late payment fees are the responsibility of the department head," Chair (S1) said, urging clarity that department heads would be accountable for reconciliation and charges. He also proposed that "lost or stolen cards or illegal use/suspect charges shall be reported immediately to the town manager, town treasurer, and credit card insurer" and noted failure to report could lead to disciplinary action. The board will forward the proposed edits to staff and revisit the policy at the Aug. 11 meeting when the manager is available to comment.
Why it matters: the edits clarify who holds financial responsibility and set reporting expectations meant to protect the town from fraudulent charges or late‑fee liabilities.
