The board voted to close part of the Jan. 7 meeting for a labor relations update and to discuss strategy for negotiations under Minnesota law. The motion cited the statutory closure authority and passed by roll call.
"I'll move to close the meeting as provided by Minnesota statute 13 d dot 0 3 to consider strategy for labor negotiations, including negotiation strategies and development, discussion, and review of labor negotiation proposals pursuant to Minnesota State statute...," a commissioner read while making the motion and the board voted to move into closed session. Commissioners said they expected to discuss mediation outcomes and strategy rather than make an immediate public decision.
After the closed session, the board reconvened briefly to confirm calendars and adjourn; staff said the closed discussion was expected to contain no immediate public action items but would inform ongoing negotiations and next steps in bargaining.
