Henry County accepts $300,000 freight-cluster grant to study truck congestion and parking

Sam Baker told the board that Henry County was awarded a $300,000 freight cluster plan grant by the Atlanta Regional Commission to study truck-induced congestion and unauthorized truck parking in central Henry County.
"This grant has been given to us to conduct a freight study to explore solutions to truck induced traffic congestion in Central Henry County, as well as unauthorized truck parking that goes on on a daily basis," Sam Baker said, and noted the grant requires a $75,000 local match that the cities of McDonough and Locust Grove have agreed to provide in writing.
Commissioners asked whether the study would yield a list of projects and whether local match or construction costs might be required later; Baker said the study will recommend projects that could later be packaged for federal or other funding and that local match for implementation could come from impact fees, SPLOST or a future SPLOST. The board voted to accept the grant and proceed with seeking a consultant to undertake the freight study.
