Public works director Doug updated the board on a package of operations projects. He said staff sent a letter to PennDOT regarding the Spring Creek mid‑block pedestrian crossing and will install signs once PennDOT responds. He also noted an inventory of six other mid‑block crossing locations and that those sites currently have proper signage.
Doug said a collapsed Wildlands bridge prompted coordination with Emmaus Borough and contractors; a portion of Orchid Place will be closed starting Aug. 10 with detour signs and public notices to support restoration work. He said base repairs and the hot‑mix resurfacing program are scheduled to begin Aug. 3 pending weather, and the township’s manhole rehab program began in the Brookside area the week of the workshop.
Staff said they will post schedules and detour information on the township website and social media and will notify emergency services and schools about the closures. Commissioners asked follow‑up questions about the cause of the bridge collapse and were told it was related to an overweight vehicle; staff confirmed no injuries were reported.
