Councilors spent time on whether a manager self-evaluation should be required and how it should be used. Some members said the self-evaluation gives the manager an opportunity to document how they met goals; others warned self-evaluations can be inconsistently detailed.
The council settled on a required timeline and process: the manager must submit a self-evaluation using the same form "30 days prior to evaluation date," and may provide supporting documentation. "If it helps anybody, I don't mind filling 1 out," one councilor said when asked whether the manager could be expected to comply. Staff agreed to add a short note on the form to make the requirement clear and to include the completed form in the Aug. 18 packet.
