Parent urges board to reverse reassignment of special-education teacher

Tabitha Shipley, a parent of a student in the district’s FMD classroom, told the Jenkins Independent Board of Education that four students will be harmed if a long-serving teacher is reassigned. Shipley said communication to families has been insufficient and described severe reactions she expects from students who rely on routine and familiar staff: "On the 1st day of school, you're gonna have 4 boys that is already refusing to come back to school."
Shipley described her son Landon’s years of progress in the class and said the reassignment—announced by posting the teacher’s job—came without prior notice to affected families. The board’s superintendent told Shipley the board cannot continue public discussion of personnel decisions at a meeting but offered to meet with her and the principal to discuss details and a corrective-action plan. Shipley left written statements and asked the board to reconsider the reassignment so her son can complete his senior year.
