Travel with Chass is a Bronx nonprofit that pairs mentoring with city outings to expose children to cultural and career possibilities, the organization’s representatives told Diálogo Abierto.
"So, yo soy los empezador, el español mío," said Christie Díaz, who was introduced as the group’s Spanish-language ambassador and described her work helping parents enroll children, arranging after-school options and coordinating support when families are struggling.
Christie recounted that her involvement grew from a personal experience: her son had school problems, and boxing classes helped him and other children. The program now runs boxing classes, trips to water parks and outings to Yankees games and theaters to broaden experiences many of the participants had not previously had.
She said the program also uses mentors and social workers to coordinate activities and a WhatsApp group so parents can seek help any time: "Tenemos un grupo en WhatsApp que cualquier hora tú puedes hablar... si algo está pasando," she said. The program marked its 10th anniversary and aims to increase the number of children receiving sustained mentorship and educational context on outings.
On the broadcast the group encouraged parents to register children through the organization; no fees or enrollment deadlines were specified on air.
