City administrators announced that Vernonia’s application for the State Avenue Restoration Project has been advanced by Representative Susan Van Emisi’s office and is now in a prioritized funding position.
"They reviewed it, and they've okayed it. And now it's moved up to the very last level, and so we're approved of $850,000 with with our 110% match, 100,000," the city administrator said, describing a roughly $1,000,000 project once matching funds are accounted for. The project scope would include full gutters, sidewalks, curbs and pavement from the bridge to two blocks up State Avenue.
Staff said they are awaiting final sign‑off from the representative’s office and that, if approved, work could start next year. Councilors praised the progress and asked staff to continue coordinating grant paperwork and local match commitments.
